A closer look at the journey.

The Laya Gasa route continues beyond the Chomolhari region into a succession of high valleys and remote camps. From Jangothang, the programme passes Lingshi and Chebisa before reaching the approaches to Laya. A rest day in Laya creates time to explore the settlement and its surrounding mountain landscape.

The return descends toward Gasa and the lower valleys, with time around the hot-spring area before the walk out toward Punakha. Cultural visits in Thimphu and Paro complete the journey. This is a long camping programme with consecutive demanding days; the final pass sequence, rest time and camp arrangements need to be considered together.

  • The Jangothang and Lingshi approach
